General Information
Cancun has all that you need in a destination; natural beauty, history, Mayan culture, Mexican hospitality and great value. A perfect combination, making Cancun the ideal destination for our 2009 Bioactive Lipids meeting.
CANCUN GENERAL INFORMATION
Cancun Island itself is shaped as the number 7 and is approximately 18 miles of beautiful white-sand beaches. Three quarters of a mile wide, the island is bordered by the Caribbean to the north and east and the Nichupte lagoon to the south and west. The island, home of the renown "Hotel Zone", is connected to the mainland by two bridges and the city of Cancun is just a few minutes away.
Downtown Cancún has a population of over 800,000 inhabitants. As of a 2003 census.
CAPITAL CITY
At the Yucatan Península, Mexico meets the Caribbean Sea, creating a region that is rich with Mexico Latin Culture, ancient Mayan Ruins and warm friendly people, but with the warm waters, calm surf and white sandy beaches of our Caribbean destinations. Just off the east coast of the Península in the Caribbean Sea lies Cancun, An Island with a narrow strip of coastline of 40 miles was transformed by the government from the site of a backwater fishing village into a major meetings destination with 114 hotels and a great Convention Center.
Cancun ranks as the most popular destination in Mexico, attracting two million visitors annually and with good reason. Beyond its pristine beach, Cancun offers a downtown with lively night clubs, numerous restaurants ranging from the typical Mexican flare to more upscale cuisine and with bargain shopping at the local marketplace and a wealth of possibilities for daytime excursions.
