Tenure Track Faculty Positions Available (Assistant Professor) – Bioactive Lipids in Cancer and Inflammation:

The Bioactive Lipids in Cancer and Inflammation program of the Department of Pathology, Wayne State University School of Medicine invites applications for two full-time, tenure track positions. These positions will be defined as 70-80% research and 20-30% teaching, depending on the goals of the individual who fills it.

Successful candidates are expected to be active collaborators with the faculty of the Bioactive Lipids Program. In addition, faculty members are expected to develop and maintain an independent extramurally funded research program. Active, funded research in the division is focused on the role of eicosanoids and eicosanoid biosynthetic enzymes in prostate cancer progression and metastasis. The Program’s research focus is enhanced by NIH funded grants and with excellent laboratory facilities on the WSU campus.

A PhD or equivalent degree is required with a strong publication record and a commitment to excellence in research and teaching in a clinically relevant context. Preference will be given to candidates with research focus on bioactive lipids in cancer and/or inflammation with demonstrated abilities in attracting funding, conducting and publishing the results of hypothesis-based research, and interest in high quality graduate education.

Submit letter of application, curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference to Dr. Kenneth V. Honn, Distinguished Professor and Director of Bioactive Lipids in Cancer and Inflammation Program, Department of Pathology, 431 Chemistry Bldg., Wayne State University, Detroit, MI 48202. The application letter should indicate the applicant’s short and long-term goals regarding both research and teaching. It should also outline his/her qualifications for the position described.

Postdoctoral/Research Associate Positions Available:

Position I:
Postdoctoral/Research Associate Positions are available to conduct NIH and Department of Defense grant-funded research on prostate cancer. Our laboratory has been the pioneer in establishing the role of platelet-type 12-lipoxygenase in cancer and metastasis. Current research efforts are focused on the interaction of 12-lipoxygenase with β4-integrin and subsequent effects on cell adhesion, motility, invasion, and metastasis. In addition, the interaction of 12-Lipoxygnease with cytoskeletal elements and Lamin A are being investigated. Our studies are aimed at ultimately establishing novel therapeutic strategies for late stage prostate cancer. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in cell and molecular biology, cancer biology, biochemistry, or related fields to qualify. Successful candidates are expected to possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English, good publication record, highly motivated with demonstrable experience in modern molecular biology and protein-protein interaction related techniques. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in bioactive lipids, cancer, and/or inflammation.

Position II:
Postdoctoral/Research Associate Positions are available to conduct NIH and Department of Defense grant-funded research on prostate cancer. Our laboratory has been the pioneer in establishing the role of thromboxane in cancer progression and metastasis. Current research efforts are focused on the role of thromboxane synthase and thromboxane receptors (TPα and TPβ) in prostate cancer progression, motility, and invasion. A clinical study is currently underway to assess the role of thromboxane synthase metabolites as potential biomarkers in prostate cancer patients. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in cell and molecular biology, cancer biology, biochemistry, or related fields to qualify. Successful candidates are expected to possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English, good publication record, highly motivated with demonstrable experience in modern molecular biology techniques and receptor mediated signal transduction. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in bioactive lipids, cancer, and/or inflammation.

Position III:
Postdoctoral/Research Associate Positions are available to conduct Department of Defense grant-funded research on prostate cancer. Our laboratory has identified a novel family of 7-transmembrane, G-protein coupled receptors with hydroxy polyunsaturated fatty acids as potential endogenous ligands. Efforts are underway to characterize the receptors, identify their down-stream signaling pathways, and evaluate their role in tumor angiogenesis.

Interested persons should apply by sending a letter of interest, complete curriculum vitae, and list of recent peer reviewed publications. Letters of reference are required from three persons familiar with the candidates qualifications and research experience.  Salary levels will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
